Connecting Utah Roads Mapping Tool | MAG

UTAH COUNTY REGIONAL GRID STUDY

Mapping Tool

MAG has put together a Grid Network Mapping Tool that allows you to see in real time what benefits you and your community could gain from increased connectivity.

The map compares the roadway system identified in the Cities' transportation plans with MAG's TransPlan50 plus proposed grid network connections.

Many of the additional recommendations beyond the TransPlan50 are roadway widening projects (dashed lines), and don’t require the construction of brand-new facilities to see shorter drive times, and improved access.

There are several topics to explore using this tool that highlight a variety of benefits:

  1. Overview – this page shows the existing collectors and arterial roadways in Utah County, as well as a blue buffer around each one to show where some of those connections are lacking.
  2. Projects – this tab identifies recommendations above and beyond what the RTP shows. The dashed lines are roads that should be more lanes than the RTP identifies, and the solid lines are new roadway connections above and beyond what the RTP shows.
  3. Economic – click on the map to see how many people can access your business with the RTP roadways, versus the recommended grid system roadways. Most of the time, the grid recommendations bring more people to a location and in a shorter amount of time.
  4. Safety – in short, the recommended grid network reduces response time for EMS vehicles, and in some instances, may eliminate the need for a new fire station if the existing station can quickly serve a greater area.
  5. Mobility Commute – click on your home, and then click on where you work. This tool shows the ideal route, and how much time you would shave off your commute. The more regional the trip is, the greater the benefits realized are.
